On 6 January 2022 the 1921 England and Wales Census records were made available online via the FindMyPast website. The records have been indexed and are searchable via the usual methods. "BODDIE, BODIE, BODDY. Perhaps from Old English (Anglo-Saxon) boda, messenger. Hugh Body of Roxburghshire rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, n, p. 208). Andrew Body was admitted burgess of Aberdeen in 1494, Robert Bawdy in 1548, and Patrick Bodie in 1593 (NSCM., I, p. 37, 61, 84). Mr. Gilbert Bodie "a drunken Orkney asse" was a member of the General Assembly which met at Dundee, 1597-S (William Scot, Apologetical narration, p. 103), and James Body was heir by conquest of Master Gilbert Bodye, minister of the church of Holme in Orkney, in the vill and lands of Cragquhorthie in the parish of Kinkell, Aberdeenshire, in 1608 (Retours, Aberdeen, 118). Patrick Bodie in Pitterheid (? Peterhead) 1633 (SCM., m, p. 102), Andrew Bodie in Dysart, 1645 (PBK., p. 281), and Christian Bodie in Edinburgh, 1647 (Edinb. Man.). The surname is common in the Aberdeen Poll Book of 1696. James Boddie and Thomas Boddie of Marnoch served in the first Great War (Turriff). Guppy (p. 287) has Boddy as a Norfolk surname, and says it occurs in Cambridgeshire, Hunts, and Oxfordshire in thirteenth century. "(The surnames of Scotland. George Fraser Black, 1866-1948)
