Margaret Bogyll is recorded in Glasgow, 1487 (LCD., p. 256), and Robert Bogyll or Bogill was rentaller of the lands of Carmyle, 1510 (Rental), and voter in Monkland, 1519 (Simon, 45). James Boeyl was tenant of the 16s. 8d. land of Carmylle, 1520 (Rental). The name is common in the Campsie Commissariot Record. Thomas Bogile or Bogill in Glasgow is mentioned in 1552 and 1558 (Protocols, i, x), Merione Bogill was spouse of Thomas Brovne In Wyndyege, 1564 (Pottok, i, p. 299), and Robert Bogill was serjeant burgess of Linlithgow, 1583-1599 (Sc. Ant., xi, p. 131; Laing, 1381). John Bogill was burgess freeman of Glasgow, 1575, James Bogil was made burgess as a burgess-heir, 1579 (Burgesses), and James Bogell was merchant burgess, Glasgow, 1685 (RPC., 3. ser. x, p. 471).
