On 6 January 2022 the 1921 England and Wales Census records were made available online via the FindMyPast website. The records have been indexed and are searchable via the usual methods. These records are only viewable on a pay-per-view basis and are not included in any of FindMyPast's existing subscriptions with the exception of the 12 month premium subscription.

"BONAR, BONNAH, BONNER. Usually described as a descriptive name, 'the gentle, courteous,' from OFr. bonair. The name may have reflected the character of the first bearer or bearers but not that of Walter Bonar of 1527. Thomas Boner, charter witness in Aberdeen, 1281 (REA., n, p. 279). William Boner, constable of Kinghom, 1328 (ER., I, p. 112). Roger Bonere, burgess of Aberdeen, 1342 (REA., i, p. 71). The ship of John Bonere, a Scotsman, was wrecked at Holkham, 1388 (Bain, TV, 381). William Bonare, citizen of St. Andrews, who had a charter of a third part of the knds of Balwely, 1451 (SCM., rv, p. 3), may be William Bonare (Bonere, or Honour) who had safe conducts to travel in England, 1452-53 (Bain, TV, 1244, 1246, 1254). Ninian Bonnar of Kelty became man to William, earl of Mont rose by a band of manrent, 1507 (HMC., 2. Rep. App., p. 168), and Walter Bonar of Kelty had remission for forethought felony and oppression, 1527 (Trials, i, p. 240). Bonar was the name of a Flemish gunner afterwards tenant of a royal farm in Fife (Sc. Ant., rv, p. 114). Charles and Thomas Banner or Bammer were herds in Buchtrig, 1684 (RFC.). In Burke's account of the family of Bonar it is stated that the surname was at one period so numerous in Scotland that no less than thirty-seven different lines of Bonars are to be found upon record, each styled by their territorial designation (Scot.
