Henry the chaplain and Humfrey the chaplain are charter witnesses in reign of Malcolm rv (Bain, n, p. 421, 423). John called Chapelayn, burgess of Aberdeen in 1271 (Fraser, p. 9). Henry le Chapeleyn of Roxburghshire rendered homage, 1296. His seal reads S' Henrici Capellani (Bain, n, p. 199, 532). Roger capellanus was custumar of Edinburgh in 1327 (ER., i, p. 82), and Alecia dicta Chapelane filia quondam Ade Chapelane, burgess of Aberdeen, is recorded in 1310 (REA., i, p. 40).
