1921 England and Wales Census records are now available!
On 6 January 2022 the 1921 England and Wales Census records were made available online via the FindMyPast website. The records have been indexed and are searchable via the usual methods. These records are only viewable on a pay-per-view basis and are not included in any of FindMyPast's existing subscriptions with the exception of the 12 month premium subscription.

"COBBAN. Macbain (v, p. 69) says from Cobban in Lincolnshire, but more probably from the Old Norse personal name Kolbein, in common speech pronounced Cobban, with diminutive Cobbie. Patrick Coben admitted burgess of Aberdeen, 1486 (NSCM., i, p. 32). Andrew Couban or Coban in Muir toune of Cores, 1633-36 (SCM., m, p. 72, 133). The name is also recorded in Fochabers in 1705 as Coban (MCM., m, p. 432). (2) Cobban in Orkney is a contraction for Kolbeinson, Coban and Cobane, 1687. Cobbie Row's Castle in Weir, Orkney, is a corruption of Kolbein Hruga's Castle (Orkneyinga Saga, 1873 ed., intro., p. Ixxv). Cf. COBBANSON, COLBAN, and COVINGTON. "(The surnames of Scotland.
