"LOCKIE. William Lokky was chaplain in Glasgow, 1503 (Simon, 55), and John Loky is recorded in Strafrank in 1531 (Rental). David Lokky was "ane of the mans generall of the sheriffdome" of Forfar in 1535 (REB., n, 186), Quhintene Lokkie was burgess of Edinburgh in 1583 (REB., n, 344), and John Lockie was retoured heir in the three mark lands of Martoune in the bailliary of Lauderdaill in 1670 (Retours, Berwick, 365). Laurence Lockie in Lyntoun, Ronald Lockie, and Thomas Lockie are recorded in 1623 (Inquis., 1087). Andrew Lockie appears in Nether Lethnot, 1609 (Brechin). William Lockie who died 1720, Thomas Locky died 1741, and Isabell Locie, are buried in Mertoun churchyard. A writer in the Edinburgh Weekly Scotsman says there are two 'tribes' of this name, one hailing from Peebles, who derive their name from Loch, a place name; the second derivation is from Luckie, from Lucas or Maclucas, but?
