"MACKIESON, MACDSON. Pronounced Meekison. The name of an old family in Stirlingshire and in Perthshire and also of an old family in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire. Thomas filius Mackyson held land in Elgin, 1398 (REM., p. 325). Thomas Makysoun, ' 'tannatof,' in Newburgh, 1402 (CRA., p. 385). Nicolle Makkesson or Makyssone was servant to Gilbert le Haye, one of the Scots hostages in England, 1424-25 (Bain, rv, 963, 986). John Makyson was a member of the Guild of Ayr, c. 1431 (Coll. AGAA., i, p. 229). Nicholas Makyson or Mackyson was tenant of part of Kethyk, 1467-73 (Cupar-Angus, i, p. 88, 147), and William Makison was admitted burgess of Aberdeen, 1477, Symon Makeson in 1488, and William Makhesone in 1521 (NSCM., i, p. 26, 33, 47). Letters of customary of Perth were granted to Andro Mackisoun, 1500 (RSS., i, 484), George Makesoun was notary public in Edinburgh, 1576 (SoUre, p. 138), and John Mackison sat in Scottish parliament as representative of Crail, 1612 (APS., rv).
