The Q is a continuation of the sound of c of Mac. The name has nothing to do with It. MacCuinn, 'son of Conn,' with which it has been confused through the similarity of sound. Hector Mac Souhyn was one of an inquest held at Dumbarton in 1271 which found that the daughters of the late Finlay of Campsie were the lawful heirs of the deceased Dufgall, brother of Maldouen, earl of Lennox (RMP., p. 191; Red Bk.
