Historical References
"ORTON. Among the witnesses to a charter by Muriel de Police, c. 1224--12 (REM., p. 120), is Nicholaus de Urcane. This is evidently a misreading of c for t in the MS. There is little doubt that the name should be read Urtane, from the land now called Orton near Bridge of Spey. "(The surnames of Scotland. George Fraser Black, 1866-1948)
