"PHILIPSON. "Son of PHUJP," q.v. Radulphus Philippi and Roger Philippi of Berwick rendered homage, 1291 (RR.). Henry fitz Phelippe of the county of Lanark rendered homage in 1296. His seal bears a rude device, an eagle (?) displayed, and S' Henrici fu" Filippi (Bain, n, p. 186, 204). Adam Philipsone was a Scots prisoner of war in Newcastle, 1305 (ibid., p. 449). Andrew Philipson was admitted burgess of Aberdeen in 1443 (NSCM., I, p. 7), and the name occurs in Perth in 1485 as Philipsun. Fergusius Philsone, witness in Aberdeen, 1469, is mentioned again in 1499 as quondam Fargus Phipsone (REA., i, p. 304, 346).
