It was charged against Alexander Rosie in Freswick, Caithness, in 1653, that he laid "a dead beast's head in the way wher" a woman's beasts (cattle) went in order 0 to cause them injury (Old Lore Misc., v, p. 62). Walter Rosie appears in Mey, Caithness, 1661 (Caithness), and John Rossie in May was to be apprehended as a rebel, 1670 (RFC., 3. ser. m, p. 194). The form Rosey is found in Orkney.
