Gilbert de Sowreby witnessed a charter by William de Cunynburg, c. 1268 (RHM., i, p. 9). Peter Sorby in Dundee charged with aiding the English, 1552 (Beats, p. 326). William Sorbie in Stanehouse, 1626, and three more are in record (Lanark CR.). John Sorbie in Upper Achie, 1748, and John Sorbie in Upper Aichie, 1764 (Kirkcudbright). "(The surnames of Scotland.
