"SPRING. Perhaps local, 'at the spring.' This name is found early in Aberdeen. Henry Spring in Berwickshire rendered homage, 1291 (RR.). John Spryng witnessed an Aberdeen charter in 1342 (REA., I, p. 72), and Andree Spryng was burgess of the town in 1362 (RMS., I, 104). Thomas Springe who had a charter of land of Cask with pertinents in sheriffdom of Abirdene, 1369 (RMS., I, 342), may be Thomas Spryng or Sprynger who appears as burgess there, 1396-99-1410 (REA., n, p. 293, 296; SCM., v, p. 13), and was concerned in a dispute connected with a piece of waste ground, 1398 (CRA., p. 371). Ro. Sprinct was admitted burgess of Aberdeen, 1400 (NSCM., i, p. 1), and Thomas Sprinct is recorded there in 1408 (CWA., p. 313). "(The surnames of Scotland. George Fraser Black, 1866-1948)
