"TINTO. From Tinto in Lanarkshire. There was a family of Tynto of Crympcramp in the barony of Crawford-Douglas in 1528 (APS., it, p. 328), and Cristina Tynto was retoured heir of Robert Tinto of Crimpcramp, her father, in the knds of Murehouss, in the barony of Thankertoun, in 1623 (Retowrs, Lanark, 141). John of Tyntow rendered to Exchequer the accounts of the bailies of Stirling in 1402 (ER., in, p. 579). Bessie Tinto was a tenant of the Abbey of Kelso in 1567 (Kelso, p. 527), Beatrix Tinto is recorded as heir of James Tinto, wrytter to the signett in 1655 (Retowrs, Edinburgh, 1049), and Elizabeth Tynto was heir portioner of Bernard Tynto in Oversyidwod in 1608 (Inquis., 353).
