Edward Smith (sea captain)
Edward John Smith (27 January 1850 – 15 April 1912) was a British naval officer. He served as master of numerous White Star Line vessels. He was the captain of the, and perished when the ship sank on its maiden voyage.
Raised in a working environment, he left school early to join the merchant navy and the Royal Naval Reserve. After earning his master's ticket, he entered the service of the White Star Line, a prestigious British company. He quickly rose through the ranks and graduated in 1887. His first command was the . He served as commanding officer of numerous White Star Line vessels, including the (which he commanded for nine years) and attracted a strong and loyal following amongst passengers.
In 1904, Smith became the commodore of the White Star Line and was responsible for controlling its flagships. He successfully commanded the, and the . In 1912, he was the captain of the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic, which struck an iceberg and sank on 15 April 1912; over 1,500 perished in the sinking, including Smith, who went down with the ship. For his stoicism and fortitude in the face of adversity, Smith became an icon of British "stiff upper lip" spirit and discipline.

Dr Edward Smith FRS (1819–1874) was a British physician and medical writer, born at Heanor, Derbyshire. According to his obituary, he failed to inspire the friendship of his colleagues, but more recent evaluations have noted that he "deserves to be better remembered by nutritionists, both for his contributions to the physiological basis of nutrition, and for his pioneering field surveys of dietary intake in relation to need among low income social groups". He worked out that prisoners who were fed on a diet of 93% carbohydrates would not be able to perform hard labour (and would therefore be more likely to resort to crime).

Edward Parmelee Smith
Edward Parmelee Smith (1827–1876) was a Congregational minister in Massachusetts before becoming Field Secretary for the United States Christian Commission during the American Civil War. In official positions with the American Missionary Association (AMA), he was a co-founder of Fisk University and other historically black colleges established in the South for the education of freedmen. Beginning in 1873, he served as Commissioner of Indian Affairs under President Ulysses S. Grant. In 1875, he was selected president of Howard University, but died on a trip in Africa in 1876 before taking office.

Edward Gordon Smith
Edward Gordon Smith (15 June 1857 – 30 May 1906) was a British postcard publisher.
His father was listed in the 1881 census as "Fancy Goods Warehouseman & Photographer Master Employing 7 men and 4 women."
Smith began publishing postcards of London in 1903, based at 68 Allerton Road, Stoke Newington. In 1905, he moved to 15 Stroud Green Road, Finsbury Park, London, and expanded into Essex and Hertfordshire.
Smith died in 1906, and his wife Elizabeth and daughters Dorothy and Ethel continued the business until about 1916.
