Researching James Murphy

LCD Soundsystem was named one of Rolling Stone’s New Immortals—"currently active (or relatively recently defunct) artists who [they] think will stand the test of time." In 2011, it was announced that LCD Soundsystem would disband with a final show on April 2, 2011 at Madison Square Garden. In the following years, Murphy continued to pursue other artistic projects: some music-related, others not. In early 2016, the band announced a reunion as well as an appearance at the 2016 Coachella Festival, with their fourth album American Dream and respective tour following afterwards in 2017.In May 2018 LCD soundsystem were headliners at All Points East festival in Victoria Park, London.

Born in Drumshevra near Scotstown, County Monaghan, Ireland, he was ordained a Catholic priest in the Diocese of Clogher in 1768. He was appointed the Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Clogher in Ireland in May 1798.

He became the Roman Catholic Bishop of Clogher on 3 November 1801, following the death of his predecessor, Hugh O’Reilly. Murphy died in office on 19 November 1824 having served as bishop of his diocese for almost twenty-three years. He was succeeded by Bishop Edward Kernan, who had was appointed his Coadjutor Bishop on 18 August 1816.

Born in Platteville, Wisconsin in 1858, Murphy graduated from the State Normal School (now the University of Wisconsin–Platteville) in 1873 and from the University of Michigan Law School in 1880. He practiced law in Platteville, and served as district attorney of Grant County, Wisconsin from 1887 to 1891. He was elected mayor of Platteville for a two-year term in 1904, and was then elected to the United States House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1906, defeating Joseph W. Babcock for the seat from Wisconsin's 3rd congressional district. Murphy served one term as part of the 60th United States Congress, but was defeated for reelection in 1908 by Arthur W. Kopp. He ran unsuccessfully for Congress once more, in 1920. He died in Rochester, Minnesota in 1927.

At the 1923 general election, he was elected as a Cumann na nGaedheal TD for the Louth constituency. He was re-elected at each subsequent general election until he lost his seat at the 1937 general election.

He was a founding member of Council 32 of the Knights of St Columbanus in Drogheda and was secretary for many years and was Grand Knight in 1942 and 1943. He is buried in St. Peter's Cemetery.

He was born in Cariboo, British Columbia, the son of Denis Murphy, and was educated there and at Ottawa University. Murphy was called to the British Columbia bar in 1897. He practised in Revelstoke, Armstrong and Kamloops. He died in 1921 at the age of 48 after accidentally slipping and drowning in the Thompson River.

He was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2001 but recovered. In October 2011, Murphy stated that the tumor had returned but that it was non-cancerous and that it was being treated pharmacologically. He is working on a tribute album to Death founder Chuck Schuldiner who died from pneumonia, caused by complications of his treatment for a brain tumor. He also produced Deron Miller's band World Under Blood. He also completed production of the industrial death metal band Dååth's second album, The Hinderers, which was released on Roadrunner Records, and Lazarus A.D.'s second album The Onslaught, and its follow-up Black Rivers Flow released on Metal Blade Records, and many other productions and mixes on various record labels. He has also performed as a touring guitarist for Agent Steel in Europe and the UK in 1987, and was briefly in Hallows Eve in 1989.

In addition to playing guitar, Murphy operates a recording studio, SafeHouse Production, where he has mixed and produced albums for other bands. He has also contributed lessons to Guitar Player magazine.

He was born in County Cork to farmer Laurence Murphy and Mary Flynn. In the early 1880s he migrated to Victoria, and worked as a traveller before becoming a cordial manufacturer around 1895. On 11 January 1892 he married schoolteacher Margaret O'Flaherty. A member of the Labor Party, he served on South Melbourne City Council from 1904 to 1942, and was mayor from 1910 to 1911. In 1917 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Port Melbourne, which he represented until his death in South Melbourne in 1942.
