James Wood (encyclopaedist)
James Wood (12 October 1820 – 17 March 1901) was a Scottish editor and Free Church minister. He was born in Leith and studied at the University of Edinburgh, living most of his life in Edinburgh. His admiration for Thomas Carlyle and John Ruskin may have contributed to his failure to secure a ministry. Instead he earned a living as a writer. He translated Auguste Barth's Religions of India and edited Nuttall's Standard Dictionary, The Nuttall Encyclopaedia, Warne's Dictionary of Quotations (later titled Nuttall's Dictionary of Quotations), Bagster & Sons' Helps to the Bible, and a Carlyle School Reader. In 1881 he published anonymously The Strait Gate, and Other Discourses, with a Lecture on Thomas Carlyle, by a Scotch Preacher. He is described by P. J. E. Wilson as " that most conscientious of pedants".

James Wood (musician)
James Wood (born 27 May 1953 in Barton-on-Sea, England) is a British conductor, composer of contemporary classical music and former percussionist.Wood studied composition with Nadia Boulanger in Paris from 1971 to 1972 before going on to study music at Cambridge University, where he was organ scholar of Sidney Sussex College from 1972 until 1975. After graduating from Cambridge he went on to study percussion and conducting at the Royal Academy of Music, London, from 1975 until 1976. After a further year studying percussion privately with Nicholas Cole, Wood embarked on a triple career as percussionist, composer and conductor.

James Wood (South African cricketer)
James Robert Wood (born 8 September 1985) is a South African cricketer. Wood is a right-handed batsman who fields as a wicket-keeper. He was born in Cape Town, Cape Province.
While studying for his degree at Durham University, Wood made his first-class debut for Durham UCCE against Durham in 2005. He made five further first-class appearances for the university, the last of which came against Lancashire in 2007. In his six first-class matches, he scored 170 runs at an average of 15.45, with a high score of 31. Behind the stumps he took 2 catches and made a single stumping.
