Some Famous People called John White
John White (Kentucky politician)
John D. White (February 14, 1802 – September 22, 1845) was a prominent U.S. politician during the 1840s.
White was a native of Kentucky and practiced law there. White was elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1832. He served as the speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1841 to 1843, and was a member of the United States Congress from 1835 to 1845.
On April 23, 1844, White was involved in a physical confrontation on the House floor with Democratic Congressman George O. Rathbun of New York. White was delivering a speech in defense of Senator Henry Clay, the Whig nominee for President in that year's presidential election, and objected to a ruling from the Speaker denying him time to conclude his remarks. When Rathbun told White to be quiet, White confronted him and their disagreement lead to a fistfight between the two with dozens of their colleagues rushing to break up the fight. During the disturbance, an unknown visitor fired a pistol into the crowd, wounding a police officer. Both White and Rathbun subsequently apologized for their actions.
White was appointed judge of the nineteenth judicial district of Kentucky and served in that capacity from February 8, 1845, until his death in Richmond, Kentucky on September 22, 1845.
White's 1st cousin, Addison White, was a congressman from Kentucky at the same time representing the 6th District. Their shared nephew, John D. White, would also go on to represent Kentucky's 9th district in the late 1870s.
John White died by suicide on September 22, 1845, after it was discovered he had plagiarized one of the last speeches he gave in office from Aaron Burr. White is buried in the Frankfort Cemetery in Frankfort, Kentucky.

He was born in Donegal, County Donegal, Ireland in 1833 and grew up there. In 1856, he married Esther Johnston. He operated a cheese factory on the Moira River near the town of Roslin. White served as reeve for Tyendinaga. He was elected to the House of Commons by acclamation in an 1871 by-election after the sitting member was named to the Senate. White was first elected as a member for Denison in 1986. He held the position of Health Minister during 1989–1992. During 1992–1998 he was shadow minister for arts, justice, environment and Aboriginal affairs. In August 1998 he resigned from his lower house seat to contest the upper house seat of Newdegate. He was successful and took the position in September 1998.
In June 1999, Newdegate was abolished when the size of parliament was reduced.
In early 2003, White and two others formed a company called Tasmanian Compliance Corporation (TCC). In August 2003 the company was awarded a Tasmanian government contract to handle building accreditation, complaints and training.
Following the 2006 state election, White came under significant public scrutiny after a confidential service level agreement, signed by White and the minister Bryan Green which was being negotiated from November 2005, was leaked to Sue Neales, chief reporter of The Mercury, who was later criticised by the Chief Justice for her "contempt of court".
After initially pleading not guilty, the Chief Justice ruled that the signing of the document was the offence, and did not require any 'mala fides' (bad faith). White then changed his plea to guilty, on legal advice of his barrister, in the Supreme Court on 20 November 2007. On 10 December 2007, he was sentenced to a two-year good behaviour bond and had no conviction recorded.

John White (1830 – 4 September 1876) was a 19th-century member of the House of Representatives from the West Coast, New Zealand.
White was born in England in 1830, the son of Richard White of London. He came to Hokitika as a purser for the Intercolonial Steamship Company running the Panama route and remained there as the company's shipping agent.
He gained a public profile through his intelligent letters to the editor, which he signed with his own name; at the time, it was common for writers to use pen names. After Hokitika was incorporated as a borough council in August 1868, White stood for election in October of that year and was returned as one of the new councillors. He resigned a year later to become a member of the Westland County Council (a predecessor of Westland Province), where he served as a member from 10 November 1869 to 8 December 1870.
White and Edmund Barff contested the general election held on 25 January in the electorate, with White being successful. He represented the electorate until the end of the term in 1875 when he retired. He was known in the House as "Honest John".
When the Westland Province was inaugurated, White stood for election in January 1874 for one of the three seats in the Hokitika electorate and was returned at the head of the poll. He remained a member of the provincial council until his death. He was the first Speaker of the Provincial Council (24 February 1874 – 8 June 1874) until he resigned to become a member of the short-lived first Westland Executive Council in June 1874. The Provincial Council was adjourned after three sessions in April 1875 and never met again before it was abolished shortly after White's death. Hence, White had practically retired from public life when he retired from the House of Representatives.
He died at his residence in Revell Street in Hokitika on 4 September 1876 from asthma after a short illness of about four weeks. The funeral service was held at St Mary's Catholic Church and he was buried at Hokitika Cemetery.
