Patrick Murphy (Pennsylvania politician)
Patrick Joseph Murphy (born October 19, 1973) is an American politician and attorney who served as the 32nd United States Under Secretary of the Army. He was the first veteran of the Iraq War to be elected to the United States House of Representatives, representing from 2007 to 2011. Murphy is a former anchor of Taking the Hill on MSNBC.Murphy is currently a Senior Managing Director at Ankura Consulting in Philadelphia and the Distinguished Chair of Innovation at the United States Military Academy.
Murphy was confirmed by voice vote as Under Secretary of the Army by the U.S. Senate on December 18, 2015, after having been nominated for the position by the President on August 5, 2015. Murphy was sworn into the post on January 4, 2016.
Murphy was considered by the leadership of the Presidential transition of Joe Biden to serve as the United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs, after having previously been considered for the same post by President Obama in 2014. Denis McDonough, former White House Chief of Staff was chosen instead.

Patrick Murphy (1834–1862) was an Irish giant, born in County Down of parents James Murphy and mother Peggy (née Cunningham), who exhibited himself as a means of income. He originally worked on the docks in Liverpool, England and later became a waiter at a hotel. Because he was a man of extraordinary height, Murphy attracted crowds everywhere he went. He eventually decided that he could make an honest living being tall. He had always billed himself as being 8'10" and in some circles as much as 9'3". In about 1860, he was measured by Dr. Virchow as being 7' 3.4" (222 cm) tall.
In May 1857 the Emperor and Empress of Austria invited the towering native of Ireland to visit their kingdom. While he was on tour throughout Europe, he died of smallpox in Marseilles at the age of twenty-eight.

Patrick Erin Murphy (born March 30, 1983) is an American businessman, accountant, and politician. A Democrat, he served as the U.S. representative from Florida's 18th congressional district from 2013 to 2017. He is a former Republican, switching in 2011.
Murphy was elected to the House of Representatives in 2012, defeating Republican incumbent Allen West by 0.8% in the second most expensive U.S. House race in history. Despite the narrow Republican lean of Murphy's district, he was re-elected with 59.8% of the vote in 2014. In March 2015, he announced his intentions to run in the 2016 United States Senate election in Florida; in August 2016 he won the Democratic primary. He faced Republican incumbent Marco Rubio in the November general election, losing 52% to 44%.
