Simon Walker (sailor)
Simon Walker is an English yachtsman, adventurer and author. He is one of only a handful of people who have raced the wrong way around the world more than once.
Walker raced on board Rhone Poulenc as the mate in the British Steel Challenge in 1992-3, and again as Skipper of Toshiba Wave Warrior in the next edition, the BT Global Challenge 1996-7. He finished 2nd overall and was the youngest skipper in the fleet.
He won the first Teacher's Whisky Round Britain Challenge race in 1995. Outside of racing he has also led sailing expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctica.
He then went on to become the Managing Director of the race organiser Challenge Business and was instrumental in the next two events, the BT Global Challenge 2000/1 and the Global Challenge 2004/5. During this time he employed Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (then Kate Middleton) for a summer job prior to her going to University.As managing director, he also oversaw several editions of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC), the worlds largest trans-ocean yachting event.
He has been an entrepreneur, author and speaker, specialising in leadership and in particular Generation Y. He was a co-founder of the online leadership coaching system, my360plus and the consultancy Talentsmoothie and the co-author of Generation Y: what they want from work.
Since 2010 he has been a non-executive director of The Adventurists, organisers of the Kraken Cup Ngalawa race in East Africa.
He is now the managing director of the Paramotor manufacturer, Parajet, and has flown a paramotor from Victoria Falls to Johannesburg in preparation for the Icarus Trophy in 2018.

Simon Walker (24 January 1958 – 26 February 2004) was a historian of late medieval England. Born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, he was educated at Charterhouse School and Magdalen College, Oxford. He was awarded a Prize Fellowship of All Souls College, Oxford where he completed his D.Phil thesis on John of Gaunt. In 1984 he was appointed to a lectureship at the University of Sheffield, and was subsequently promoted to Reader. In 1999 he was appointed a vice-warden of All Souls and gained an Extraordinary Research Fellowship at the College
Walker's work focused on late medieval political history, more specifically on the relations between nobles and retainers within the framework often referred to as bastard feudalism. His best known work, The Lancastrian Affinity, 1361–1399 (1990), explored the retinue of John of Gaunt. Walker died of cancer in 2004.

Simon Edward John Walker (born 28 May 1953) is Chairman of the Trade Remedies Authority, and business adviser and consultant to a number of companies. He was previously lead non-executive director of the Department for International Trade and Director General of the Institute of Directors from 2011 to 2016. Prior to this he has been Communications Secretary to Queen Elizabeth II and an advisor to former Prime Minister, John Major. He was born and grew up in South Africa and has worked in media, politics and business in New Zealand, Belgium and the UK.
