Some Famous People called Thomas Horton

Thomas Horton (soldier)

Thomas Horton (1603 – October 1649) was an English soldier in the Parliamentarian army during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, and Regicide.

A member of the minor gentry, his family was connected to Sir Arthur Haselrig, one of the Five Members whose attempted arrest by Charles I in January 1642 sparked the First English Civil War. Horton served throughout the war, and in 1645 was given command of a regiment in the New Model Army.

During the 1648 Second English Civil War, he played a significant role in ending the revolt in South Wales, and was rewarded with grants of land in Pembrokeshire. He was appointed as a judge at the trial of Charles I in January 1649, and was one of 51 who signed the death warrant.

In August 1649, his regiment was selected for service in Ireland; he died of disease at Wexford in October, and has no known grave.
