Walt Williams (cornerback)

Walter Williams (born July 10, 1954) is a former professional American football cornerback in the National Football League and restaurateur.

Born in the South Bronx, N.Y., Williams (and his five siblings) became wards of the state at age 7. He lived in two children’s shelters, spending most of his time at one in Westchester County, learning culinary arts and playing football.

After high school, he started hitchhiking to California but ended up in New Mexico. He attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, where he played football. He was a second round draft pick for the Detroit Lions in the 1970s. He moved on to the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears, playing a total of eight years.

He played seven seasons for the Detroit Lions, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Chicago Bears.After retiring from football in the early 1980s, Williams started a real estate development company in New Mexico. Then the savings and loan crisis wiped out about 90 percent of his holdings, he said. He moved to Dallas, starting Sweet Georgia Brown in a boarded-up former Burger King on Ledbetter Drive because he thought a restaurant would provide steady cash flow.The restaurant has grown from eight employees to 20 today.

As a young man he walked into New Mexico State University football office and said "Coach, I want to play football", this determination led him to succeed not only on the football field but also in life. After a great football career in college, he used the same determination to succeed in the NFL. However, he had bigger dreams for himself and his family, he wanted to be a great businessman, and he chose the City of Dallas to demonstrate his culinary passion.

This great athlete turned himself to a great businessman, and South Dallas is so grateful to have this restaurateur serving food in South Dallas. His love for serving people exceeds his love for anything else, he is a family man with a mission to serve people fresh authentic soul food. Many locals refer to his food as the best soul food in Dallas.

Walt Williams (athlete)

Walt Williams (born 7 May 1985) is a Grenadian retired track and field athlete who specialized in the throwing events. On April 28, 2007 he threw the shot put a distance of 17.26 m, in the process setting a national record. He won medals at the CARIFTA Games in both discus and shot put from 2000 to 2004. He represented Grenada at the 2006 NACAC Under-23 Championships in Athletics, finishing in fifth place.

In 2016 he launched a sporting club in order to develop athletes with the aim of having them qualify for the 2020 summer olympics.
