Some Famous People called Bob Sadowski

Bob Sadowski (pitcher)

Robert Sadowski (February 19, 1938 – August 5, 2018) was a pitcher in Major League Baseball who played from 1963 through 1966 for the Milwaukee Braves (1963–65) and Boston Red Sox (1966). Sadowski batted and threw right-handed. He debuted on June 19, 1963 and played his final game on July 4, 1966. He was the brother of Ed Sadowski and Ted Sadowski, and uncle of Jim Sadowski. He was not, however, related to third baseman Bob Sadowski, who played for four MLB teams between 1960 and 1963.

Sadowski divided his playing time between starting and relieving. He was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals as a free agent in 1958, then was sent to the Milwaukee Braves along with Gene Oliver in 1963 in the same trade that brought Lew Burdette to the Cardinals. His most productive season came in 1964, when he posted career-highs in wins (9), games pitched (51), starts (18), saves (5) and innings (166).

Sadowski has the distinction of being the last Braves starting pitcher in their final home opener in Milwaukee, as he defeated the Chicago Cubs 5–1 (April 15, 1965). Suffering from arm miseries, he pitched his final Major League season for the Boston Red Sox in 1966. Sadowski worked in only 33 innings and made five starts, but one of them, on June 1, saw him combine with José Santiago on a three-hit shutout to defeat the Washington Senators at Fenway Park. It was Sadowski's only win in a Red Sox uniform and his last in the big leagues.

In a four-season MLB career, Sadowski posted a 20–27 record with a 3.87 ERA, eight saves, and 257 strikeouts in 115 games (54 as a starter). In 439 innings pitched, he allowed 416 hits and 130 bases on balls.

Bob Sadowski (third baseman)

Robert Frank Sadowski (January 15, 1937 – January 6, 2017) was an American professional baseball player and manager. Primarily a third baseman and outfielder during his brief Major League Baseball career, he was a second baseman and shortstop coming through the minor leagues. Sadowski batted left-handed, threw right-handed, stood tall and weighed during his active career. Nicknamed "Bo", Sadowski's big league career coincided somewhat with a namesake, pitcher Robert Sadowski (no relation).

Bo Sadowski signed with his hometown St. Louis Cardinals (the team that first signed pitcher Sadowski as well) in 1955 and made his debut (and only) appearance for the Redbirds on September 16, 1960, when he grounded out and walked against Stu Miller of the San Francisco Giants during a 6–2 defeat at Busch Stadium. Following the 1960 campaign, he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies, who recalled him from the Buffalo Bisons of the Triple-A International League for a more extended 16-game trial during 1961. But Sadowski batted only .130 in 54 at bats, and was traded again the following off-season, this time in a multiple-player transaction to the Chicago White Sox.

Sadowski spent the full 1962–63 seasons in the American League. With the 1962 White Sox, he batted .231 with six home runs and 24 runs batted in in 130 at bats, but was outrighted to the ChiSox' Indianapolis Indians affiliate at season's end. Selected during the Rule 5 draft that November, he spent the 1963 season with the Los Angeles Angels, where he hit .250 with a home run and 22 RBI.

Sadowski returned to the minor leagues in 1964, and played six more years, almost exclusively at the Triple-A level, for several organizations. As a major leaguer, Sadowski batted .222 with seven homers and 46 RBI, but he was a solid .267 hitter in almost 1,400 games played as a minor leaguer. Following his playing career, he spent one season, 1972, as a manager at the Class A level in the Minnesota Twins' farm system.

Sadowski died in January 2017 at the age of 79.
