Some Famous People called Tom Taylor
Tom Taylor
Tom Taylor (19 October 1817 – 12 July 1880) was an English dramatist, critic, biographer, public servant, and editor of Punch magazine. Taylor had a brief academic career, holding the professorship of English literature and language at University College, London in the 1840s, after which he practised law and became a civil servant. At the same time he became a journalist, most prominently as a contributor to, and eventually editor of Punch.
In addition to these vocations, Taylor began a theatre career and became best known as a playwright, with up to 100 plays staged during his career. Many were adaptations of French plays, but these and his original works cover a range from farce to melodrama. Most fell into neglect after Taylor's death, but Our American Cousin (1858), which achieved great success in the 19th century, remains famous as the piece that was being performed in the presence of Abraham Lincoln when he was assassinated in 1865.

Tom Taylor (25 May 1878 – 16 March 1960) was an English amateur first-class cricketer, who played for Yorkshire during its successful period under Lord Hawke between 1900 and 1902. Taylor was a noted amateur batsman, who retired early as he needed to devote his time to his engineering business after the 1902 season.
It is likely that Taylor would have received England honours had he been able to keep up the game, for he was chosen as 12th man in the rain-ruined Lord's Test match in 1902. Taylor was a fleet-footed and extremely sound middle order batsman, who was especially strong against slow bowling on the many difficult pitches experienced in Yorkshire. Against fast bowling he was not as certain.

He was born in Ontario. In 1904 he was a member of the Galt F.C. team, which won the gold medal in the soccer tournament. He played all two matches as a forward and scored three goals. After the 1904 Games, Tom moved to Winnipeg and became Assistant Manager of the A.R. Williams Machine Company to at least 1936.
He should not be confused with Thomas G. Taylor who was a coach of the US Naval Academy's soccer team.

Tom Taylor (born Henry Thomas Taylor; July 7, 1911 — July 20, 1970) was a Welsh cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman who played first-class cricket for Glamorgan. He was born in Cardiff and died in Pontypridd.
Having played club cricket with St. Fagans during the 1930s, Taylor played three first-class matches for Glamorgan between 1932 and 1934, though he had little success with the bat - sixteen of his seventeen first-class runs coming in a single innings. Between 1935 and 1950 Taylor played in at least six Minor Counties Championship matches for Glamorgan's Second XI - and during this decade he also took charge of four matches as umpire.
